Larry Wright Basketball

Hello, my name is Larry Wright and I currently live in Lapeer, Michigan with my beautiful wife and three kids. My world has revolved around basketball since I was first able to pick up a ball as a child. God has used basketball to open up almost every door and opportunity that has led to the success I have had in my life thus far.

I started playing basketball competitively at a very young age. My mom and I didn’t have much while I was growing up, but we had each other and the amazing support and love of family, friends, our community and most importantly, the big man upstairs. At the young age of 10, I was blessed to have sponsors that allowed me to play AAU basketball around the country. I played all throughout my elementary, middle school, and high school years. As a junior and senior in high school I was offered multiple full-ride basketball scholarships all over the nation. I chose to play at the prestigious St. John’s University in Queens, New York. I played there for 2 years and my mom and grandma drove all over the country to come to every single game. I have had the opportunity to play in almost every state and big arena, and I have to say – nothing compares to playing at The Garden. So many unforgettable memories were made there.

Unfortunately, my mom had an injury requiring back surgery in 2009 so I decided to transfer to Oakland University in Michigan to be closer to her and to continue my basketball career there. I red-shirted for a year and then played my final two years at OU where we made it to the Division I NCAA tournament both years. I graduated from Oakland University with my Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Development in 2011, but after receiving several offers, I decided to continue my basketball career overseas in Germany. I played in Germany for 3 years where I was able to travel the world to visit many places – including Spain and Italy. It was during this time that I met my wife, who just happened to be at an OU game that I was also at during my professional team’s winter break. We then crossed paths again at the Ludington Gus Macker that summer and we’ve been together since.

As you can see, God has used basketball to guide me in every aspect of my life – and for that I am so extremely grateful. I am thankful to be where I am now, with an amazing full-time job and the opportunity to also train kids of all ages through my newly developed company – Larry Wright Basketball LLC. I offer individual and group training sessions and I also have started running basketball tournaments throughout Michigan. If you’re looking for someone to train you, your child, someone you know, or have interest in playing in a basketball tournament – please don’t hesitate to reach out. I love basketball and I love meeting new people and developing relationships through this avenue in which I am so passionate about.

I look forward to seeing where basketball and God lead me to next – I already know it is going to be great!
